Trouble deleting old system folders

Hi,

I have recently re-installed Vista on an old hard drive which had some stuff on I wanted to keep.

As such I didn't format it when I installed Vista and now I cannot delete the old system/users/program files folders, I keep getting the message you need permission to perform this action.

Does anyone know how I can delete these old folders?

Don't you just need to take control of the folders using the Security tab on the Properties menu when you right click on a folder?

Thats what I thought but all options are greyed out so I cannot change them.

Are there any utilities that will let me delete these folders, I have about 40gb taken up by these folders
