Trouble downloading files from the internet - corrupt files?

Hi,

I've just finished building my new computer. I've installed XP and gone to Windows Update and done everything I need to do from there. I've just tried downloading AVG free, but when I try to run it I get the following message:

'Some installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy and retry the installation'

I tried again and got the same message. I tried downloading the full trial version but got the same message.

I then tried downloading another program, and got a similar message:

'An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.'

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thank you.

Everything is brand new today, could it have a problem this soon?

How do I do Memtest? Also, the hard drive is OEM, so no utilities.

Thanks

It seems I have found a solution:

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options, click on 'Delete Cookies' and 'Delete Files'. Choose to delete offline content on the prompt.

Click on Start > Run > type %temp% and then press enter. Empty the temp folder by clicking on Edit > Select All and press delete key on the keyboard. Say 'yes' or 'yes to all' to the prompts.

Then try downloading again. It worked for me, so I hope it helps someone else.

I spoke too soon.

I have just tried downloading a fix for making DVDs work on my machine, and I am getting this message about corrupt files coming up again.

How do I delete the nVidia firewall?
