Trouble getting extension Mic to work with galaxy s4

Hi, anyone here manage to get an extension mic to work ok with galaxy s4?
I got 2 lapel mics with the 3 and 4 band jack plug connectors, but no sound ever worked. Just the inbuilt mic on the mobile phone.
Any ideas welcome

Download Open Camera, in settings find the bit about Audio and select it to accept external mic.
