trouble installing mce on old pc

okay so now i finally got this new system up and running just and i wanted to install mce on my old system.

So i go about doing everything needed to install the os and format the hard drives etc, once the comp reboots to do the second stage of the install it gets to about 34 minuted to completion and then i'm treated to a black screen that doesn't dissapear, don't think the system resets, it just sits there.

any ideas, the system has been working flawlessly for 2 years before this new install.

9700pro
512gb ram
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
80GB Hard Drive

Unplug any usb devices, that can often kill a windows install.

Do you have a copy of xp lying around so you can see if its just mce?

Have you tried several times, and does it always stop in the same place?

If it still won't work, do you have anything you can take out of the system such as a tv card or sound card to narrow down the problem?
