trouble playing avi's in any video player!!!

Hi guys,

Im having a proper mare, just freshly installed vista premium and i am trying to play a .avi file.

If i play it in WMP then the picture freezes every few seconds then catches up, i installed the K-lite codec pack but it's still the same.

So i used Media Centre and it's the same problem.

Finally i installed VLC and the picture works fine but the sound either disappears after a few seconds/minutes or freezes and plays a continuous tone.

Any ideas, thanks.
 
I Dont bother with any stupid codec packs... I dont understand why everyone else does either?

Install KMP and play 100% of all your debbie vids without retarded codec packs mesing up your system.
 
I agree, don't install the codec packs, they tend to mess up often. For now, I use only VLC, or FFDshow + MPC for watching movies.
 
I assume you've tried other video files?

It sounds like that one particular file is fubar..

AVI file means its possibly a downlaoded movie and if KMP or VLC dont play it, then as has already been said, its fake.

If KMP or VLC cant play it then its not worth worrying about anyway. Delete it and move on

Well, How can I explain it without breaking any rules?

I suppose I cant really, but lets just say you downloaded a legal video file called for example MOVIE.AVI

Now, this movie is a film about alien autopsys maybe?

However, instead of it being that, it could be a dummy file, or even a file in some weird format that cannot be viewed unless you download some other weird obscure Video player?

The Movie, or the player will almost always contain some nasties.

When programs like VLC or KMP wont play them, then thats a sign to accept that the movie you are wanting to try to watch is not what you think it is, and so move on, delete file file and learn from the experience.

If you are determined enough to still try to watch it, then get ready to be hit by some nasty or other... If you get that far, then you bloody deserve to lose all your files cos you are clearly a knob head.
