Hi all,

Just got a set of 5.1 speakers for my B-day, and i can't get them to work!!!

I have an Epox 9NPA+ mobo, and I've set up the speakers and plugged them all in. I have the Realtek Sound Effect Manager thingy installed, and I've auto detected them in there. I tested them and the 5.1 works (using the Realtek 3D audio demo). Now, this is where problems start. I start a game- Farcry for example, and the Crytek screen jingle is in 5.1. When the title screen appears, and when gameplay starts I only get 2.0 sound (front L&R), so no bass!

I have a similar problem with San Andreas, except the sound is stuck at 2.0 all the time, and there's nowhere in the sound options menu to reconfigure the audio setup.

I've fiddled around in control panel, and the windows settings are at 5.1, but this makes no difference at all!

Any ideas?

Cheers

You could check that in game options, you have set your sound up correctly ?

Maybe there is something in there to use 5.1, surround sound etc. I knowa lot of games have quite a few sound options within them

Cheers for the reply.

It's all sorted now. I suspected that there was some problem with the realtek audio drivers, and I was right. The standard graphic equaliser setting, for some stupid reason which I can't think of, rolls the bass off so no low frequencies go to the sub. All sorted now after an hour or so of farting around with custom settings.
