Trouble with friend's computer/graphics card

My friend recently upgraded his graphics card to an 8800gt, hoever it just isnt working. Originally as soon as he tried to enter a game it would crash and error report, and now as soon as he plugs in the graphics card, installs the driver, and reboots he gets a "mode not supported" message ont he login screen.
His motherboard is the following

He's not using a great power supply, but i would have thought thigns would have cut out rather than crash... Your help would be appreciated

Anyways he's just told me he's now getting disk boot failures, so what do you recon?...
 
I think he buys a lot of stuff off fleabay, and the powersupply he's using came with his case.. He's got a 3ghz dual core, and he's using about 3 drives (2 hard drives and 1 dvd) .. It's a 450w psu (which i know doesnt mean much) but i think the amp ratign was quite low...
