Hello there,

I've been trying to put win 7 on an old gateway laptop, the specs are Moblie Sempron 3000, 512MB RAM, GeForce Go 6100, 50GB HDD.

Sometimes, it will lock up at the initial installer load screen (white bar across screen) or, will get to the expanding files stage and lock up at 2 or 4%. I'm installing it from the DVD.

Am I doing something wrong here? Any help appreciated.

Agreed 512 isn't much, and I'm guessing it's shared with the graphics. It shouldn't actually hang the process but is not beyond the realm of possibility. Is it actually locking up or just appearing that way? I've seen it hang there for ages on a good system and then just continue as normal after a while.

I can't find any drivers at all for this laptop, tried xp and Vista and it just wasn't working so 7 seemed like a good option. I'm actually putting 7 on a decent desktop now and it was taking a while on 1% but jumped to 13 so I probs just need to be patient :p
