I have just installed the following

Asus A8n32-sli
X1900 GT
2x 70gb raptors (Nvidia sata port 1 & 2)
1 dvd drive (primary IDE port)
asus neo he 430w psu

The BIOS detects all the drives correctly, but when i try to install windows from the original dvd it is just sitiing at the "Setup is starting Windows" blue screen ?

I have the Nvidia raid disabled in the bios, as i want these as seperate drives, do i need to make a floppy disk with hard drive drivers for this motherboard ?

Any help welcome

Hi,

I had the same problem with winxp and i found i could fix it by pressing F5 instead of f6 when it asks to install third party raid drivers and setting it manually to ACPI, another good thing to do is to just use n-lite to include your sata drivers on a windows installation disk, you could also slipstream SP2 into your windows installation as this often helps people too,

I've just moved up fron Nforce3 i didnt need to install the SATA drivers for that, do i have to copy some files from the NForce drivers to a floppy for the Nforce

I dont have a floppy drive at the moment so would have to wait until tomorrow :(

You should have got a floppy disk with your mobo, it'll have the sata drivers on it. When installing windows, you need to hit F6 and pop that floppy in.

Hmmmm I have got a floppy and installed the drivers from both the CD and the latest from nvidia.

I was unable to get it to detect my hard drives, it responded with no drives found. This is on both my WD Raptors.
The drives are plugged into the Nvidia SATA ports, with NVRaid disabled. I have tried with the RAID option enabled, but this makes no difference. besides i want then a seperate drives.

I then tried a backup drive, WD 320gb Sata2 drive, which windows installer detected and was happy to install windows onto ??

Has anyone heard of any compatability problems with Raptor and the Asus a8n32 ? i would expect that 90% of the owners of this board are using raptors as thei boot drives ?

I got the same with a old laptop and later with a Socket 754 system, the 754 system continued after 5 minutes of hanging the laptop stayed on that screen for 30 minutes without activity, I never figured it out :(

I don't think you need to install SATA drivers as the nForce chipset simulates IDE drives.

How long did you wait?

I left it for over an hour while i had some food :(

It is so weird, the BIOS see the raptors and so does the nvidia raid setup when i enabled it, but windows does not !! but with a WD 300gb sata 2 drive plugged in, the windoes installer detects it and is willing to install windows ?

Do you have a floppy drive?

If you do use that to install the SATA drivers before installing Windows that came with the mobo, it might help?

I have tried with and without a the drivers on a floppy.

I tried the drivers that came with the motherboard and the 6.85 drivers from nvidia.

I think i will RMA the board as it must have an issue with the HD controller?

Long shot:
Maybe Format, Partition and initialize them before installing Windows with a utility from the manufacturer?
