hi i am having terrible trouble with pop ups - i have run a check with noadware, which identified numereous cookies; i cannot delete them without registering. can i just delete my temp internet files - would i encounter problems if i delete all these files in the folder?

additionally can anyone give any other advice on how to get rid of these pesky things - i cannot go on a page without getting numerous variant forms of pop up.

sorry if this is a rudimentary post - hope you can take the time to help

regards
freshy

sorry - this is in the wrong place - hope someone can move this to the right place

yes you can safely delete your temp internet files as well as files from temp folder & cookies folder.

popups like that are often due to spyware / mallware, i would recommend you donwload spysweeper from webroot & run it, its a great program imo.

Your post belongs in the Windows & Other Software Forum where you also find this.

Ok, above is a bit old but some info is still relevant.

DO NOT get any pop-ups, spy/ad/etc-ware, etc with my machine & this is what I've done/installed:
  • Stopped unnecessary Windows Services as advised here;
  • Router with hardware firewall (NAT) - that doesn't stop pop-ups;
  • Windows Firewall - comes free with XP SP2, also doesn't 100% stop pop-ups;
  • Use Firefox with Adblock & Adblock Filterset.G Updater extensions. Also Firefox's inbuilt pop-up blocker is turned on;
  • SpywareBalster - prevents rather than cures & does a good job of it;
  • Ad Aware Personal - removes any Adware, etc run it daily to make it effective;
  • Windows Defender - unlike the above, runs in the background catching anything 'naughty'
Above are free except of course the Router & to some extent Windows XP :D

as Aces said, yes you can :rolleyes:

Download Spywareblaster . Spywareblaster works by building up a database of tracking cookies and then adding them to Firefoxs/IEs "ignore" list. It's superb at protecting against tracking cookies and my Spybot scans always come out with nothing now (after installing spywareblaster) :)
