Hi all,

just got around to re-installing Q4 on my pc after a full format... since having it last ive bought myself a widescreen TFT (the Belinea 102035W) and i cant get widescreen setup for the life of me!

ive done what it says online in the guides and it still comes out stretched, i have no idea what to do..

has anyone else had any similar problems?

Cheers

Did you check over at www.widescreengamingforum.com? I used their guide (which is basically the same one as for Doom3) and it worked fine for me. I also recommend using the Quake4 enhancer program called "Quak4" (if you're using an nvidia card), which you can find out about in the forums at www.nvnews.net. The latter won't help with widescreen, but can improve performance and/or image quality.

awesome cheers :D

well, i think ive sorted the problem with widescreen now... i kept going into the options after loading up the game to see if the resolutions i wanted were in there... and they arent, but they wont be will they?

i'm running an Overcocked 6800GT AGP :)

Yeah - with these widescreen hacks the game should load up in the hacked resolution, if you know what I mean, rather than you having to select the resolution from the list in the game. Also, you need to have the graphics card (in the control panel) set to 'fixed aspect ratio' or 'centered in the screen' (or someting like that).

I strongly recommend Quak4. I got a boost of about 10 frames/sec with similar image quality.

It sounds to me like the graphics card is scaling the image in some way. On my graphics card (7800gtx) you go into the graphics card control panel/nview display settings/device settings/device adjustments, and select centered output. This just stops the graphics card from doing any scaling. Try that.

Regarding Quak4, you just enter the path to you quake4 directory in the upper right box (e.g. C:\Program Files\id Software\Quake 4), select a profile from the upper left (performance, high quality, or ultra quality), press Build interaction.vfp, and then press 'Run Quake 4'.

Hope all that makes sense

In your Quake4 directory find the "Quake4Config.cfg" file and edit it so that you have the 6 lines below, change the resolution ones to suit your monitor.

Save the changes then launch Q4 to run @ that res. If you go into the gfx setting within Q4 you will lose the custom res and have to repeat editing the .cfg file. These settings BTW are for 16:10 TFTs. set r_aspectRatio controls the monitor type: 1=16:9 2=16:10 0=4:3

Within Q4 itself launch the console and type: seta g_fov 100
This command adjusts the Field Of View. Play around with the number value to get something which looks right on your monitor.

seta r_useIndexBuffers "0"
seta r_customHeight "1200"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

^ Ginja - i dont see that setting, which is bizarre as i usually know where i'm goin in the gfx settings :S

^ AWPC - ive done that, it stilll doesnt work :(
On my old AGP6800GT256 I had it running @ 1920x1200 with that hack.

Does your gfx card have 256MB if only 128 may not be enough Ram to display it.

Other thing to suggest is add a custom res in the nvidia control panel as it may not have the new res settings installed (did you also install a driver for your monitor as that is where XP initially looks for the res settings/monitor specs).

the monitor is installed fine, its a 256mb 6800GT so that should be fine.

everything is still stretched ingame though, and it looks terrible :(
HL2 has it so easy, just click 16:10 and put the res to the right setting and its fine.

no luck with the hack still :(

^ have done, it still seems a little stretched though...

the quality is always on low though, i cant seem to set it higher, because every time i go into the options the resolution sets itself to low again :(
The trick is to:

1: Setup all your gfx options then exit Q4.

2: Edit Quake4Config.cfg with your preferred res then close + save the file.

3: Load Q4 back up again and do not go into the gfx options part of settings otherwise it resets back to a lower res.

This mod definately works!

i think i spoke too soon when i said i had it fixed... just tried to start playing the game and it seems stretched again!

can somebody that has it on widescreen working fine, bring up the objectives when there are none, becuase the little "no" symbol, the circle with a line through it, is an oval on my screen! meaning the whole thing is stretched!

and the symbols people have when you hold the mouse over them are all rectangular still and not square.
