Troubles getting new monitor to work

I bought the 23.6 120hz 3d widescreen monitor and recieved it today. Been having problems hooking it up. It will work when i use the vga cable going from my graphics card but will not work with HDMI. The reason this is a problem is i have an older monitor that only has a vga slot and i'd like to keep it as a 2nd monitor. Anyone have a clue why its saying no signal and then going black from HDMI? Thanks.

edit: just to add, i did run another monitor from the HDMI slot before, it was a t.v monitor though.

Is this the monitor Acer GD245HQ?

If so, it says in the review section that you need to use the dual link dvi cable for 120hz.

As said use a dual link DVI cable, or it just defeats the object of having a 120hz monitor.
