Finally picked up some new hardware.. got the Fiiio K5 Pro ESS, the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro and a mic with boom stand. I run Windows 10 and I also downloaded PEACE.

Yesterday, listened to music. Sounds great. Played CSGO (Counter Strike) game and it also sounds great. No issues. I can hear where footsteps are coming from.

I turn it off at night and go to work today. Come home and it sounds totally different. Everything sounds like I'm in a tunnel. There's nobody else here except me and nobody else uses my computer anyway.

Started up Counter Strike, same thing. However, there's a bunch more wrong with this. First off, noise of "air" in game is super loud compared to other stuff. That happens the whole game. Second, when I get near certain in game sounds the game gets super loud.. there's a map with music. The music is super loud and the sound of animals. Every few founds I get total static on the headset and the sound freaks out. I have to switch in game sound to another mode, then switch it back for it to behave again.

I have tried disabling PEACE with no luck. I tried turning off and on the Fiio with no luck. I tried unplugging the USB and plugging it back in with no luck.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Only thing I have not tried yet is restarting, which I'm going to try now.

EDIT2: Rebooted. Same issue. Headphones sound like crap. Sounds like I'm in a tunnel and muffled, when yesterday they sounded like the best headset I've ever owned.

Fiio K5 Pro owner (original not the ESS). I'm not sure to be honest but a few thoughts:

1. Have you tried any other headphones on the K5 to try to rule out the headphones or DAC/AMP?
2. Or tried the DT 770 Pros on something else (appreciate this is difficult without another AMP)?
3. Do you use the Fiio USB driver for Windows 10/11?
4. Have you tried the plug on a different socket/extension - I'm sure this isn't it but thought of it.
5. Are you running a USB hub between K5 and PC?

I don't use Peace Equalizer (or anything between Foobar 2000/Spotify tbh) so don't know this program although I suppose uninstalling may be a idea.

I typed my answers after your questions. I had closed PEACE with no luck.

I uninstalled the Fiio driver and reinstalled it. As of now the sound is back and sounds great at the moment in Counter Strike as well. Let's hope this isn't a daily occurance.

Sounds like the headphones are fine so something else caused the issues. Re: Peace Equalizer I just wondered if it had messed with a driver or Windows sound setting and hence the uninstalling suggestion.

Hopefully it's a one-off and doesn't do it again for you!

It was indeed a one off issue. Uninstalling Fiio Driver and re-installing did the trick.

I am happy with my purchase except I upgraded the earpads to Dekoni Elite Sheepskin.
