Troubleshooting a possible blown PSU

Nearly there, just trying to work out cables for gpu with new seasonic.

The 4080s have a 600w slot each.

The seasonic tx1600 noctua (atx 3.1) has pcie gen 5 which I presume is the same.

Just the single cable from GPU to PSU? I seem to remember melty cable issues but presume 600 to 600 is correct?

On my now blown Thor I used cablemod 600/12vhpwr to a split thing with 3 x pcie.

correct, just make sure the cable is fully inserted on both ends, and also that the cable is slack (ie no tension on the cable)

I think the Super version used the updated 12v-2x6, not sure on the original 4080, but they're pin compatible anyhow.

The initial cablemod angled adapters had a recall and many adapters (not just cablemod) ended up in repair shops still attached to the card.

If you have a native cable (ATX 3.1 is 12v-2x6) then there's just one connection to the card from the PSU.

Very snazzy - thank you - it's a mess at the moment as am running it with the side off just in case I need to dabble and will tidy cables properly - but everything is running smoothly and all 3 nvmes work. And way less densely packed cables than the last one even though the dimensions of this are bigger.

OCUK have set up a courier for an RMA on the Thor. Suspect they'll return a repaired or replaced version to me at some stage which will go on eBay : )

Thank so much tamzzy, tetras and all in the thread - very helpful, reassuring and patient

so its looking like the psu was the only casualty?
if so nice well not nice things not breaking is nice but yeah im glad it didnt take anything else out with it :-)
ive semi experienced psus killing other parts when i bought a gpu out of a friends pc that failed to work in my pc we then foudn out that not a single componant in the pc worked
he also forgot to mention it being the same machine when i later bought a motherboard off him and guess what......... yeah that was also totally dead lol
im waiting for him to try sell me the psu next LOL!
ut yeah back on track hopefully it was just the psu and hopefully hte rma goes well

Yep - hugely relieved. Tbh not even bothered about the RMA (not least because I'll have to sell the bloody thing!)
But I've already finished the project I was in the middle of, backed it up and am about to tidy up the cabling and call it a good days work.
So it seems like the PSU did it's job and protected the other bits - looking into surge protectors and uninterruptable power supplies just to be overkill safe in case it was an issue with household wiring or something (I doubt, but...)

oh i totally understand where your coming from lol
and the psu spare thing half as a joke but half not
when i upgraded to the 1kw version of my psu about 2 or 3 weeks ago i donated my 10 month old 750w to a mate and then decided to buy it back a few days later when i realised he thought it was a cheap on and was selling it for virtually nothing so i though you know a spare isnt the worst idea on the planet after the amount of other people killing psus have shown me
so half joke but half me being cautious ive got a back up gx750 lol
