Troubleshooting AM5 upgrade

I moved from AM4 to AM5 and it has not been a smooth ride.

Original hardware
MSI AM4 motherboard with 5950X
32gb DDR4
2tb NVME
EVGA Supernova 1000 G2 PSU
Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU

The system has been working perfectly until I made the upgrade to
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
ASUS TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS WIFI AM5 motherboard updated to latest bios
Kingston Fury Beast Black Expo DDR5 32GB 6000MT/s DDR5 CL36

I would get random crashes where I would have to power off the system by the plug and it would take 2 or 3 attempts before the computer boots up successfully. Crashes can happen within an few hours or days. Just normally on the desktop or a normal application. But so far it has not crashed when playing any games.

First, I changed the ram for Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB 6000MHz C36
Crashes still happening.
Second, I swapped the motherboard for Gigabyte AM5 B650M AORUS ELITE AX, updated to the latest bios.
Crashes still happening.
Third, clean install of Windows 11.
Crashes still happening.

In total, I have swapped the RAM, motherboard both being from different manufactures and done a clean install of Windows and I don’t understand why the system still crashes.
The system has not been overclocked and the only change I do is enable EXPO in the BIOS for the RAM.

Any ideas? Thanks

Memtest wouldnt make sense its not bad RAM. The first set of RAM I used before getting the Corsair was used in my Intel machine which has worked fine for months.
Underclocking the RAM, before enabling EXPO the RAM would runs at the slowest speed, sometimes to system wouldn't boot at all from cold boot if I did.
On board gpu only, no different either. That was one of the first thing I did before installing the 7900XTX
 
Memtest = could memory controller on cpu which has stayed same do what you are asking it to do. Hwinfo. Temps?

By crash, what do you mean exactly? Does it freeze, or?

Have you tried disabling all power saving modes in the BIOS? I haven't heard of this with AM5, but with AM4 CPUs unstable at idle / very light load were not uncommon *, could be addressed with disabling power saving or additional voltage, but RMA was the fix. With Asus motherboards there's also an option called something like "PSU idle control" which might help if this is the problem.

Glad i finally got there!
Interesting one though, with about a week without a gaming PC, I’ve actually found other hobbies and have lost the will to play games! :confused:I don’t miss it at all.

Happy with AMDs turnaround though!

Ryzen 5800x turning off randomly either when idle or gaming

I guess the motherboard is over 30-days since you bought it? If it isn't, you should be able to claim a full refund inc shipping costs, or request a repair/replacement of the faulty product. Sadly, bought it in May. Only started hanging this last month IIRC.

Its an hard crash so I need to unplug the computer before I can boot it again.

Thanks for the info everyone. I was going to run a memtest but I cant even get to boot into it :mad:

So I have raised an RMA to replace the CPU.
