Hi,

So just taken delivery of my Titan Onyx from OcUK. Been a while since I got a new machine, so slowly getting to grips with the new hardware and Win 7.

However I have a few immediate questions, that seem to be mostly related to the motherboard.

Firslty when starting up, I notice two screens where it (the BIOS?) reports no harddrives installed. First time I booted I was naturally concerned, but there is a hard drive and its connected, which and found and booted the pre-installed win 7 off fine.

Is this expected behaviour? I guess the board supports seveal harddrives and RAID(?) so maybe its just checking through the available hardware? I assume more information would be avialable from setup, though i've not built up the courage to delve into that yet ;)

The second issue is that win 7 warns me to troubleshoot the installed 500Gb Seagate Barracuda. From what I can see its complaining that there are no RAID drivers installed. But I don't have RAID, so not sure whether I should or not? I'm wondering if this is also related to the start up errors/warnings above?

Finally i'm searching now, but would welcome suggestions for monitoring software to check temps and clock speeds. Not sure if there is anything on the ASUS disk, i'll have to check. One thing I want to confirm is that the i7 920 is over-clocked to 4Ghz as the only info i've found in Win 7 reports it at 2.66Ghz.

thx

Edit:
Ok I see from reading some reviews of this board that it comes with a host of software and drivers and the OC Palm looks cool.
Is there any reason not to install these programs?

does it flash up something about Marvell controller? i think you can turn this off in the bios. (but i have the same sort of thing on my start up and i cant turn it off :))

Monitoring software, i always use HW monitor

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

download CPUID while you are there.

edit. Just found out what was flashing up on my boot, it was a bit of controller software that i wasn't using, im sure it will be the same for you.

Yes it it Marvell and I suspect it means that it expects a RAID setup. The actual text that flashes up is

Marvel 88se63xx/64xx adapter BIOS Version 3.1.0.12
Resetting Controller 1....... [OK]
Initalising Controller
Spin Up Group 1....... [OK]
Initialising RAID component...... [OK]

This takes about 5 second than the next screen is

Marvel 88se63xx/64xx adapter BIOS Version 3.1.0.12
Virtual Disc
[no virtual disc]
Physical Disc
[no physical Disc]

I had a look in the BIOS, but i'm a little apprehensive about changing things. I assume if I fix this then WIn 7 wont complain about missing RAID driver on the HD, reports it as an error currently.

Got CPUID, though hadn't come across HW monitor, thx.

Got a reply from OCuk technical support with a nice simple fix to the issue.

the 'advanced' tab on the bios should also have an 'onboard devices' section
please ensure that the marvel storage controller is disabled

please also disable the following:
marvell storage boot rom
sas boot rom
lan boot rom

Following these steps appears to have resolved the issue and the machine now boots up very quickly. Windows 7 now doesn't complain about missing RAID drivers either.

Now if only I could get the MB to stop that single quick start up beep, which according to the docs means 'VGA detected, quick boot disabled, no keyboard', which I gues means its expected?

As a quick follow up question to this thread, is it safe to disable these options if I have AHCI enabled on my hard drive?

Don't want to turn it off unwittingly as I've got a feeling AHCI uses some of these raid/SAS drivers.

Thanks. :)
