Hey guys,

I have a problem with my system, it seems whenever I try to play games full screen I get driver resets, or black screen.

The games I have had the problem with are Titanfall, Thief, and Sleeping Dogs.

I have also played CS:GO for about 10h on it in full screen and its not crashed once.

My specs are :

Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB
i7-4770K 3.50GHz
Gigabyte Z87-D3HP
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA
Xigmatek Midgard II Gaming Tower Case
TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz
NZXT Hale Power 90+ 550W '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply

Ive done a fresh Windows 8.1 install, latest drivers, bios on all defaults.

Not sure what else to try? cheers for any help.

I should say ive run furmarks and Heaven benchmark on extreme and its fine.

Black screens are normally associated to driver problems and the fact it occurs in all 3 games suggest it isn't a title problem.

What resolution are you attempting full screen at?

Are you overclocking at all?

Running at 1080p, I've tried the last 2 stable, and 1 beta release of the drivers, all the same, I have tried it without installing CCC no different.

No overclock at all. I've run prime and memtest to check the rest of my system and they all seem fine.

Just trying what you said LtMatt, and its got further than it ever has so far, which is a good sign at least then I can say its definatly the graphics card.

Pre-Overclocked Elpida's (present on Powercolor PCS cards) are the source of the majority of black screen problems. It can often (but not always) be solved by either running the memory at stock or by increasing the voltage on the core. Its usually a lack of voltage which means the memory is not quite stable. The other possibility is the memory is just faulty and is not able to run at its advertised clock speeds and manufacturer set voltage levels, but can happily operate at stock or with a voltage bump. Finally it could just be faulty memory that black screens regardless of anything.

Cheers LtMatt, the bearings in one of the fans are making a noise that sounds like a HDD always being accessed as well, so I've arranged an RMA.

But I did try running the memory at 1250 in Sleeping dogs twice, and the intro finished both times, which it never had before.

Cheers for all your help. Not having much luck with AMD cards, last one was a 9700 Pro and that was a proper nightmare.

Now theres a blast from the past, quality card back in the day though the 9700.

I'd recommend any other 290 card but the one you've chosen tbh.

Yea it was a good card, though the cooler was rubbish on the one I had, was perfect once I gave in and replaced it.

The RMA process being quick with ocuk for powercolor is what drew me towards this one.
Though maybe I wouldn't have needed it with someone else's lol.
