Today, I switched on my computer (old spec - due a rebuild at some point) for it to boot up to Windows (XP 32) and then have the graphics fail - the monitor just completely dropped and went blank like there was no feed. It has been doing this a few times randomly over the last couple of weeks. I hit reset hoping that it'll reboot properly but instead I'm greeted by bands down the monitor in start-up which has also carried into Windows. A few more reboots confirmed that it's a problem I'm now stuck with.
The bands look roughly like this:
|||||....................... ||||||......................||||||.......................||||||
I dragged out the vacuum cleaner and gave the whole system a going over and had a fiddle with the VGA but it's not helped. I'm going to see if I can find a spare VGA cable later, but does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a driver, card, or VGA problem? It's an old ATI x800 card, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's on its way out finally.
TIA.
