Hi guys,

Specs are:
Corsair CX550f
B450 tomahawk max ii
16gb ram 3600mhz
3400g ryzen

Put it all together for my old man and no power. I purchased a second hand NZXT 510 (?) Case and I'm wondering if the issue is due to the f_panel. The case should come with a breakout cable but it's missing unfortunately.

I get nothing when I try and power up. I've tried using the pled and power switch from another case and still nothing.

I've tried connecting the fpanel plus from thr case into the motherboard slot jfp1 and they look to align but it still won't power up.

I know the psu is working fine (testing in another pc)

Any ideas?

Remove all the front panel connectors from the motherboard and try shorting the relevant pins with a screwdriver. Also make sure the PSU is turned on at the back!

Do not use the anti-static bag as a base. It's designed to conduct electricity. You may well have broken something by doing so. Use the cardboard box in which the motherboard came instead.

I did not know this. I used the box underneath the static bag if that helps..

Edit, it had the exact same issue prior to stripping it down on the bag so I don't think that has done anything but I'll definitely remember it in the future

Flash bios so you are sure it has a 3400G capable bios.

Shouldn't it still power up? It is a b450 max so it should be ryzen 3 ready. I'm not sure I can flash it even with the flash back feature if it won't power up.

The chip you are trying to use may be 3000 series but it is not Zen 3, it is more complicated than that and iirc the 3400G is actually a Zen+ cpu.

Unknown what it will do with an incompatable bios. You can flash without anything , just download a bios onto USB stick and plug it in the back and press the flash bios button, instructions on website.

IIRC the 3400G is a 2000 series cpu (ZEN+) with an integrated gpu. Zen and Zen+ often need different bios to Zen 3 so if it has shipped with a bios that supports 5000 series chips then it may not work with your 3400G.

If you goto the compatability tab on the support page you can look for the 3400G and it has a download link for the bios on the right. It is the 7CO2H0 bios which is different to the bios for a 5000 Zen3 chip

Interesting... I'm going to grab a 2400g and chuck that in it and see what happens. I can't see anything anywhere that shows an incorrect bios completely killing the power to the board. Normally it throws up an error on the EZ Diag LEDs and then people tend to update the bios. I can't find any posts where people have plugged the cpu in, board was dead and then an update fixed it. I'm pretty sure 85% ish that it is a dead cpu.

Appreciate all the info chaps

I was not aware that you had another Ryzen cpu to test with. If I am correct and the mobo has a 5000 cpu bios then the 2400g will also not work for the same reason the 3400g is not working.

If you do have a faulty cpu then you may see different behaviour with the 2400g and maybe get some fault leds to help you diagnose.

This is what I'm hoping for. If I can at least get the fault code then I'm making progress. At the moment, it's dead to the world with that cpu in. I'll be sure to update the thread in the hope that it may help others down the line

Just a little update. I put another 3200g into this and it booted up first time.

So, a dead CPU does stop the PC powering.

Glad you got it sorted. I am sure it will work well for your Father for many years.

Did you test with the 2400g ? if so what did it do when that was slotted in ?
