Hello,

I recently purchased a 9070XT and have been experiencing issues in certain games, specifically Battlefield 2042, Forza Horizon 5, and GTA IV, though I realize that GTA IV is known for its poor performance. I get constant stutters and game freezes in those games. I initially thought the problem was GPU-related since I had no issues with my previous 3070, and this only started when I upgraded but now I'm starting to suspect it might be a CPU issue.

I upgraded from a Ryzen 3700X to a 5700X3D back in August, I noticed a significant improvement in performance but I suspect it wasn't getting pushed all that hard by my old graphics card.

So far, I have reinstalled the AMD Adrenaline software twice, and for the third installation, I installed only the driver without any additional software, no change. I have also reseated the GPU in the motherboard.

I ran the CPU at stock settings but learned that undervolting might be beneficial. I tried using PBO2 tuner with a -30 offset, but I am still encountering the same issue. Even when I limit the maximum temperature problem keeps occurring, it doesn't seem to be an overheating problem. Additionally, I've reseated the CPU cooler (a Noctua D14, I think with 2x 140mm fans) and reapplied the thermal paste, but there has been no improvement.

Ive also installed the games on different drives but doesn't help.

In 2042 I get this (linked below) error using the in-game performance metric (perf.overlay drawfps 1) The CPU will go red and drop to zero fps and the whole game will freeze up (sometimes sound drops too). It also doesn't appear to matter what graphic settings I use, in 2042 maxed out (without ray tracing) I get 140ish and on lowest its around the 220 mark, same issues appear either way. Similarly, with Forza, it doesn't matter what I am doing, it will just freeze up on it's own even if sitting still in a car with nothing happening on screen.

Cant get the image to insert so here is a link

Would appreciate if anyone can suggest something I'm missing. I put the 3070 back in and it works fine, so I think it's either a faulty GPU or the new graphics card is exposing an issue with my CPU that I wasn't aware of.

Either that or my set up just doesn't play well with those particular games because the likes of Black Ops 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 run absolutely fine.

The only thing I can think to try now is a fresh windows install.

Spec:

X570 Motherboard (gigabyte)
5700x3d
9070XT (sapphire)
64GB RAM (I've ran on default settings as well as XMP)
850W PSU (Seasonic)
2xNVME SSDs (Samsung)
4xSATA drives (2xSSD)

Many thanks

Did you use DDU to remove the old Nvidia drivers before installing the AMD Drivers if not it maybe worth giving this a try.

In the bios, do you have Resizable Bar enabled? (may have to update the bios to get this if its not there, its may also be called Smart Access Memory (SAM)

How old is the PSU?

If you do a re install of the OS it might be an idea to do it on a spare SSD\HDD\NVME drive so if it does not work you do not have to waste your time re installing everything

Many thanks for the suggestions, it appears to of been an OS issue. I was still on windows 10 (I don't like change :D), just installed 11 and it works absolutely fine. I'll do a fresh install at some point as I realise it's better to do that than an upgrade but thankfully that's it performing fantastic now.

Thanks all!

If you wish to get the Windows 10 UI back use Explorer Patcher

Glad you have got the issue resolved.
