Hi there, you guys have probably read my previous thread whining about my broken wi-fi, well I have isolated the cause as the router, there's nothing I can do about it for now so I am trying to improve the issue.
One of the things I can't get my head around is shown below

It is shown that it is connected and the signal is decent, and yet as can be seen from the top, the phone is connected to 3G instead of wi-fi.
Any ideas?

When you click on the blue circle to the right of the network name, are you given a proper network address?

I don't suppose you're getting a 169.x.x.x are you?

I guess I should ask this first, really: are you actually getting internet access on the phone when 'connected' to the wireless network?

Yes I do get internet access, the issue is that it will just randomly drop for no reason, and the only way to get it back is to reset the router.
This was what I get when I click on the blue circle.

That's why it's showing 3G and not the wifi icon, because your router isn't giving it an address.

A 169 address will not give you access, therefore if you've got internet access on the phone it's because it's via 3G, not wifi.

"Forget" the network and try to re-add it. Make sure that DHCP is on on your router. If you still get problems, try a manual IP address rather than an automatic one.

hmm, just playing around with DHCP settings and set the lease time to "forever" to see what if any difference that may have had. Instantly the missing fields where filled in and the WI-FI working..

If it were me, I'd factory reset the router. And also update to latest firmware, if it isn't already.

Definitely a router issue, not a phone issue.

No firmware available sadly, it's an old thing which at the moment I cannot replace. If the issue arises again I'll give the router a factory reset. Many thanks for your help. :)

I have loads of dropout issues with my ipod touch on wifi, even though i might be only 6 foot away from the router in a direct line of sight and this happens with several routers that i have tried.

ffs, it has just happened again! going to do a factory reset shortly.
edit: factory reset seems to have made no difference
it has wiped my settings and replaced them with these

Seems to have gone back to normal.. for now at least..

Might be worth trying to update the firmware on the router, and also restore the firmware in the iphone. Atleast everything is up to date this way and then try again. Possibly chance that something could be interfearing with the signal. Try a different channel on the router.

I had this problem with my iPhone. I have to switch the phone off and switch it back on. It's annoying bug on old firmware. Are you using the latest 4.2.1 ???
