Our main family PC has been grumbling a bit. I built it several years ago and it has served us quite well. Recently it was be switching off when under any load. Most notably in gaming. eg Lego LOTR, Borderlands.
Seems to have been ok with other tasks and minecraft.
In an attempt to remedy this I bought a new PSU. A Be Quiet PowerZone 750W. Fitted it all up today but if anything the system became more unstable and now will not boot without the display turning off. Previous PSU was OCZ 500W Stealthstream.
Spec is
Asus P5B mobo
Intel Q6600 - I had it moderately overclocked but have returned it to stock for troubleshooting.
Gelid Tranquilo cooler
Radeon HD4870
4GB DDR2
I have had the GPU out, cleaned and reseated and checked everything else. I will try an alternative GPU tomorrow but if that doesnt work it looks like I will need to replace the lot. This has some appeal as I will upgrade to a SSD and the machine will then do for another few years.
Any further suggestions before I scrap it?
This is my alternate build
