Troubleshooting: PC takes a while to turn on?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advise on what might be preventing my computer to turn on. When you turn the computer on all the processes that it goes through to check the hardware complete but it doesn't load the bios at all. If you leave it at that limbo stage for a while and then click restart it will boot up and it will be absolutely fine. I have tried everything I can possibly think of to troubleshoot it, tried all ram sticks individually, tested them with Memtest +86 with 0 errors, used the on board graphics instead of my PCI Ex graphics card, reseated the processor and everything. It always has up to date drivers for everything and I have always had the same problem. Here are the specs:

Asus Crosshair II
AMD Althon X2 245 running at about 3.4 ghz (but have tried at standard settings it makes no difference at all)
Corsair XMS2 C4 6400 4X1GB 2X Dominator 2 x Normal XMS2
Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS
Creative SoundBlaster XFi Fatal1ty
Western Digital Raptor X
Coolermaster 600W iGreen
Both CPU and Graphics and using expensive zalman heatsinks bother never over 30-35 degrees.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Hi there, firstly you say that the hardware check completes but the bios doesn't load? Does anything come on the screen? If so what does it display when it stops doing anything? Also have you got the latest bios installed from the Asus website?

Nope doesn't display anything on the screen at all. I mainly use a CRT on the desk and then a TFT for actual viewing for films etc. so when the computer properly starts you hear a little staticy sound from the monitor receiving a picture for the first time from being on standby for a while and that doesnt happen at all when its in this "limbo" Yep, latest bios is on there too!

It sounds like post is taking longer than it should. Start with a full bios reset and see what happens with stock settings.

Have you changed anything recently?
