Hello all
ASUS TUF gaming B650-plus ATX
Ryzen 7 7700
DDR5 32gb (2x16) corsair veng CL30 6000
Phantom Spirit 120
Crucial T500 2TB
Corsair RM750x 135mm fan (2021 version?)
EVGA 1060 6gb SC
Montech air 903 max
Windows 11 home
All parts are brand new (purchased December 2024-Feb/March 2025) other than the GPU which I've carried over from a previous build. The GPU hasn't skipped a beat in all the years I've had it. The build has presented me with no issues in 5-6 months of general and gaming use. Witcher 3, Warhammer 2, Banished and Farming Sim 25. Temperatures are stable with the CPU and GPU around 55-60c in Witcher 3 for example during summer months on high but not maxed out settings.
Playing FS25 over a week ago and the whole computer just loses power. I immediately thought power cut to the property but nothing else was affected. I go to turn it back on using the front case button and nothing. I turn it off and on at the PSU rear button and then press the front case button and it works. Windows 11 log in screen appears and then loses power.
Second attempt I get 15mins before it loses power. At this point I do not have any time to spare for further investigation so I switch it off at the rear and leave everything until the next evening.
I flip the PSU switch to on and use the front panel button and it turns on. I log in and everything is perfect whilst I browse and youtube, then after an hour it loses power. I read around and the the sense I get is that something is tripping the power supply and that's why I'm having to off/on switch.
Opened up the computer and double checked all connections and looked for any signs of concern. Then I had the idea to remove the GPU and plugged everything back in, powered up and it works. For a week+ now I can do everything except gaming and I have had zero power losses or any other worrying issues.
I'm now in a situation of wondering if it is the GPU causing this issue or has something happened to the PSU and it cannot handle the power draw of the entire system when just running normally not gaming and by removing the GPU I just took some stress off. Approx power draw is just over 300w. Below are a few things I've tried out:
Placed the GPU in the old PC (Skylake i5 6600k + Z170 build) and allowed it to run for 30-60minutes and it did not cut power or present a problem (now that it is the weekend I plan to do this again and leave it running through the day for a good amount of time to see if the same problem appears)
Placed the GPU in the second PCIE slot on the new MOBO. It produced the same power cut off problem.
Used a different extension socket, this produced the same power cut off problem with the GPU in and the PC runs fine without the GPU in.
Used the other PSU 6 pin cable for the GPU. This produced the same problem.
I'm hoping this is something a member has experienced or is aware of.
