Is there a great loss with detail when playing HD audio bluray movies with using optical?
Dts HD, True HD etc

In absolute terms, yes, there's a difference. But for you it won't matter. You're running a 2.0 system - or you were a week or two ago, unless it has changed in that time - so your player should be set to output stereo not multichannel. From BD you'll get 48kHz uncompressed 2 channel PCM, even if the player is playing the HD audio tracks.
