Truecrypt 5 is out

Use Truecrypt for encrypting the odd file and it works great. Tempted by encrypting the whole OS partition just in case my computer was stolen and something personal was left on there. Curious about how much of a performance hit you'd take doing it though?
 
I've downloaded this today and made a secure partition for my private files on my laptop and USB flash drive. A great piece of software, highly recommended. I never would have expected encryption to be available as an open source app. I always expected to have to pay for stuff like that! Hidden partitions 4tw!
 
i tried encrypting a spare ibm t42 i had lying around, made the recovery cd, then it went to the test reboot.

got past the truecrypt bootloader and put the password in, but the machine seemed to just hang there on a black screen. booted into safe mode fine, so did not entering the password and pressing [esc] to bypass the auth but upon booting windows and truecrypt resuming, it said it failed and wouldnt go any further.

had to boot to recovery mode and run a fixmbr and fixboot to get the windows bootloader back.

having said that, i have a 500mb hidden container i have on a usb stick i use often but would like to try the full disk encryption again once i've figured out what went wrong!
