Trust between two domains

Hello,

I am looking at setting up a trust between two domains, one domain uses RM CC3 and the other does not. Can anyone tell me if there would be any repercussions in doing this for the CC3 network?

Should there be anything else to bear in mind?

Thanks in advance

Andy

RM CC3 'hacks' a lot of access to the Active Directory through unsigned and unsupported DLLs. Its effective enough in small isolated environments but is very challenging to use in larger environments (I've worked in the largest single domain deployment of CC3).

What I'm saying is you may well get weird results, as you routinely do with CC3 in a simple single domain. Adding the trust variable may make these weird results more commonplace, it depends on what you actually try and do once you have the trust in place though. In and of itself, adding it isnt likely to cause a problem.

Thanks for that Sidethink,

Our school is based across two sites and I was planning on creating a file share with permissions between the two.

Just hoping this wasn't going to be too many issues on the site with CC3!

I guess the biggest question is, does this need to be a two-way trust?

You may well get less issues with a one-way trust (dependent on direction).

You could ask RM for an official position, depending on your relationship with them. My gut instinct is that you should have no real issues.

In our environments we would try this out in a lab, but given the size of the operations we took the decision at the outset to have dev, test and QA labs setup with small replicas of the production system.

I fully realise that individual schools wont have the budget for this approach.

Thanks very much for your help.

Just to clarify: If we were to create a one way trust so that the NON CC3 site trusts the CC3 site then we will be able to give access and permissions to shares on the NON site to users on the CC3 site?

To my understanding;
No; unless the users on the CC3 site were able to pass the relevant credentials to the other domain.

CC3 in my experience is a PITA! A few schools are thinking of scrapping it...
