Can anyone explain what it actually is in real language?

All i can find is typical non-sensical jargon to impress old people who know nothing about software, and scare them into using it. But what does it actually do? Is it the same as other browser-based log in managers that hold the password and account name encoded and just past eit in so you don't have to type?

Having looked at it (installed it from First Direct) i can see how it can help protect the non-internet savyy folk out there who are the type of people who believe they have a relative in Nigeria who has left them a diamond mine or who think that just because the banks logo's are on a page that it must be legit.

If you have any kind of internet know-how then it's a bit of a waste of time, it just verifys the address of the bank and pops up to tell you that you are ok and not being phished. It gets irritating after a while if you use the same password or username for sites also.

i tried it for a little while, as kefkef says if you are internet savvy it's not necessary.

This. I have it installed on my parent's laptop as it gives them one extra layer of protection. It doesn't get in the way so I am happy for it to be there. Don't use it on my own machines though.

Stayed over at my old mans last night and it seems he has fallen for the jargon. Apparently HSBC told him he had to have it. :rolleyes:

He asked me why his usueal AV did not stop all these 'hacking' attempts that Trusteer is throwing up.

This is one of the reports that has scared him, This, all apparently in the last week.

Rapport blocked attempts to alter the following browser functions. Altering browser functions is a technique that allows taking over the browser and getting access to your sensitive information. This technique is used by malware but also by some legitimate software. Rapport blocks suspicious attempts to alter browser functions. This does not necessarily mean that you have malware on your PC. By blocking these attempts Rapport protects you whether the attempt was made by malware or by good software. You do not need to take any action.

I got it from Santander online banking. As far as I know, it is supposed to be a anti spyware software. I haven't had any problems with it, but, if you use the same password as your banking on another web site, then it throws up a warning.

It's a good idea in principle. It looks specifically for known exploits/techniques for grabbing banking passwords etc. As I said previously, it has never been intrusive and is just one little bit of extra protection for the less technically inclined.

Apologies for the thread necromancy but Trusteer Rapport has been compromised to the point where the exploit uses Rapports technology against itself to decrypt protection keys.
It can also be exploited in such a way as to disable any anti-keylogging protection in OSX.
The C source codes for these exploits are freely available at various security sites.
