"Try to..." or "Try and..."?

"Try to find a spade."

"Try and find a spade."

Surely the former is correct, yet I almost always hear/read the second instance.



So should we try to use "try to...", or try and use "try and..."?
 
Why are you trying to find a spade in the first place? Do you often mislay them? Is your garden shed so big that you might be unable to locate said implement?

That's pretty much it. I had such difficulty finding my spade, I was forced to delegate the task to a team of gardeners, to which I asked "could you please try to find my spade?".
