Trying again for a new monitor...

Hi all,

Last year I purchased a Dell Alienware AW3423DWF, it was great, but it had a fault (coil whine) so it was returned. I did not get a replacement as had continuing concerns over burn in (burn out?), of OLED panels as I use my monitor for a mix of gaming and office work. In the end, I retained my trusty Dell 2721 DGF, which has served me well but is probably due for an upgrade, so I am looking again, so I think I need
  • 30" plus
  • For Office and gaming
  • No OLED, as don't want to be worried about burn in
  • Doesnt have to be widescreen
  • 165hz+
  • Good HDR
  • 4k ideally, but 1440 probably fine
  • 100x100 vesa compatible useful for my monitor arm
  • PC use, no current plans to use a console
  • I don't need speakers
  • No desire for RGB

Currently I have a MSI 3080, i9 9900cpu, 32gb ram with windows 11.

Thanks for any help and for reading!

what sort of budget are you thinking of? Maybe a mini led monitor if your not comfortable with oled
I have been saving for a while, so maybe upto £1000

If oled burn was a major issue the forums would be alight with complaints. The pixel response time makes it second to none for gaming. They have in built measures to stop burn in and you can take further measures (screensaver) if you're really paranoid
I am not 100% against oled, the AW3423 oled I had for a while did look great. I have a LG C8 TV which is oled and still going strong, but I would prefer not to worry about it if there is another option.

Thanks @jabski - I was doing some further reading with your recommendations.
  • Gigabyte 32" M32U
  • Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75
  • LG 32GQ950-B
However, the more I read and watched reviews the more compromised I felt each of these options were in some way. Maybe the G7 is the top of this list.

If you want good HDR you'll have to go OLED or Mini LED. Anything else is a compromise IMO. If you can go without HDR and suffer a lowly 144Hz refresh I can highly recommend the monitor I'm using (LG 32GR93).
Thank you. I do think I want HDR, I had it for a bit with the OLED AW3423DWF and it was transformative on games. But I do do static work most day, and the PC sits with static screens if I am using win 11, and I have tried putting the taskbar to automatically hide, but it felt like another compromise.
Personally I am not too keen on VA panels, though I havent used the G7. Also after using oled it is noticeable using other monitors.
Thank you, yes that was one of the reviews I read yesterday.

A bit more research and thinking needed.

This has just come on offer and might be what your looking for
Thanks for the recommendation. I have read one or two reviews, sounds like a good monitor, with only HDR and local dimming coming up as an issue. HDR 600, is probably fine, although the local dimming gives me some pause. I will try and read a bit more.
