Trying "Motorway" for the first time!

You seem to think the lad in the supermarket car park can dish out £30k from his hut without the same level of due diligence that can happen over the phone...

Not sure where you’re getting that, or what your argument is here, but you do you pal.

We are generally distrustful of dealers when selling us cars, but when they are buying from us they are suddenly to be 100% trustworthy? :D

Had the op come here and said his car was sold and collected but he hadn’t received payment in a week, I bet people would’ve pilled in here giving it ‘Oooh why didn’t you get payment upfront tsk tsk…’.

This place is hilarious sometimes.

My point was that the quote posted from dLockers about Seat paying within 2 hours i.e. instant payment if collected before 4pm is exactly the same as WBAC if you pay for their premium payment option.
I'd assume you'll get paperwork from the driver to confirm they have picked up the car and unless you're incredibly unlucky I don't foresee you being scammed by someone random taking your car away unless they happen to carry trade plates and know you were waiting for the car to be picked up at that exact time.
Therefore it's basically the same.

Yeah tricky one really. Is there a specific reason a dealer can't make same day payment? Is the concern just that the arranged pick-up was towards end of the day and the accounts department can't make payment before they go home. If that's the case then I'd be arranging for an early morning pickup so there's plenty of time to make payment.

If they're bound by the faster payments restrictions - i.e. payment not guaranteed for 24 hours, then you could tell them you'd pay the £25 of whatever for a CHAPs payment.

Of course they would, because this is OCUK Motors where real life doesn't apply and everyone is an expert. Luckily WBAC is setup for folk like you that will pay a premium for a perception of "betterness" lol.

There isn't a dealer in the country that would let you drive off without cleared funds in their account for a vehicle - in my mind there is no difference when the transaction is reversed.

It's obviously fine as you're dealing with a professional intermediary who manage this all the time, however my personal experience was that I had cleared funds and would have accepted nothing less

It’s basically the same at it’s lowest common denominator yes. But in real life it is different. WBAC you go there, you deal with one guy in person, he appraises your car, goes through the paperwork. You can then watch him sanction payment (I stood over him at the computer). If I have a problem with payment, I know I can rock up and find the guy I dealt with. For the record I’ve used WBAC twice and didn’t feel the need to pay extra for the quicker payment option.

Carwow, I dealt with several people; the Carwow person who chased the dealer that didn’t contact me upon winning the bid. I spoke to two different people at the dealership and then the driver (who freelances) and arrives with no direct affiliation to the dealer. Yeah ok he’s called Dave, has a note of my details and may have trade plates (I didn’t see these until after concluding transaction), but who wants to be the guy who watches his 30k car drive off and then wait a couple of days for payment, WHEN I knew I could have opted for instant payment then and there? Peace of mind and all that.

Fine, you say it’s essentially the same process, I say it feels different in the driving seat and the Carwow/motorway experience is mitigated by getting paid there and then.

You don’t have to take the delayed payment option if you choose not to. Maybe it’s fine after a few goes or if money on question is small fry.

You still going? Lol.

Hey all... I'm not sure what's happened above, sorry if I've started something ;)

The car collection went ahead today. Chap came down on the train from a previous car drop off.

Gave the car a look over, called the dealer on site to go through it, confirmed and answered the dealers questions.

He then had a tablet and was filling out info on there along with pictures of the few stone chips that I had made aware on Motorway. And that was it

The dealer then arranged payment with their finance department. The Equity was paid into my personal bank straight away, and the PCP has been settled. Won't be clear for a day or two as others suggested. But got the emails and confirmation/proofs from the dealer showing they have made that payment.

I've cancelled my tax, the dealer did it for me actually when they called to confirm payment had been made, and I've had that confirmation too.

Now just worried something will happen on the cars journey from here to them but that's out of my hands. I mentioned trade plates and he said he has them and just puts them on the dash :|

I assume I'm safe to cancel the insurance now, just don't 100% trust this part more than anything. Payment was the issue. But either way there's a paper trail that shows when the car was taken/paid for so I assume all's good either way. (I'm a worrier, is that clear? Lol)

Yes get your insurance cancelled and don't worry about anything else you've got all the paperwork to say it's no longer yours

Mistakes thread for "the first time you drove on a motorway"...
Sees talk of selling cars for 27k...
Looks at driveway full of old **** heaps....
Leaves thread

Finance hasn't cleared yet but they did say 3 days which would be tomorrow.. same day as my next payment! Typical! I imagine that will get refunded in the coming weeks all going well

We gave motorway a go, and everything was great until the chap came to pick it up and spotted some janky paintwork that a previous owner had done on the rear bumper and turned it down. At least now we know about it so we can mention it in our next ad

Yeah I guess it also depends on who you have on the day.

I got lucky, well I say lucky but imo the car was as described but I was a bit concerned incase I had missed something but no.

The guy who came out was from a 3rd party collection company, he didn't test drive it wasnt interested at all, and just seemed to be in a hurry to get home lol.

But all ended well, garage paid, funds cleared early this week and an overpayment to the pcp I made due to bad timing is on its way back to me too.

So overall had a good experience, price was probably what I would have expected to get private, maybe slightly lower but without the hassle so I'm happy with that. I keep checking their site to see it listed but I imagine they already had a buyer for it. They have 3 other RS Meganes currently too
