so i have our network set up, 3 computers wired. rest are wireless, using the BT voyager 1500.

A week ago we tried to LAN age of empires 3 which worked in out last house, but this time it won't play ball at all. Some times i can see the other player on the LAN menu but then he can't see me.. All firewalls have been set to allow for play but still no joy!

Any ideas?

software used is kaspersky av, and windows firewall. i don't think the router has a firewall...

also as a side note,

the getting to files on the network is becoming tiresome and difficult.

I can see other computers on the network, then go to enter a computer and windows holds a bit then comes back with a message saying i don't have the rights or privalages... any thoughts?

all 4 pc's are on xp home, and have all got the same workgroup.

Thanks in advance!!!

Fur :)

Ensure firstly that you have the Everyone group set to Full Control on a share on each machine.
When prompted for a username and password you'll need an account with the appropriate permissions on the local machine you're connecting to.
Ensure you have File & Print sharing enabled in the Exceptions list for the WF on each machine.
Try browsing to each machine by using the UNC path e.g \\10.0.0.4\share

Note: If you want to set Security permissions in XP Home, boot into Safe Mode and you should then be able to take ownership of a folder and the Security tab should be visible.
