Trying to blag new I.T. job, pre interview questions are a bit vague

These questions arent vague at all - they are open questions designed to probe your knowledge rather than just allow you to stream off a list of TLAs.
Taking the first question as an example, I would be looking for answers that deliver a joined up solution to the problem. So think about the technologies you would design and implement to handle authentication/directory, file/print and perhaps configuration management. I would expect there would be obvious synergies between some technologies and obvious problems using, for example, Active Directory in that scenario. What alternatives would you use? Or how would you overcome the problems.
Just give some good examples of your knowledge in each area. These questions are an opportunity to show the depth of your knowledge.
