His budget maxes out at £500, ideally he wants to spend £430ish. The kicker is, he's starting from scratch (no monitor, no OS etc). He wants to use it for video editting and some gaming potentially. So far, I've gone off the guide and put this together

(forgot to add cpu cooler too, but stock fan for now maybe)

But to keep it under budget I'm donating an old X1500 gfx card I have collecting dust. I'm trying not to skimp to the point where he may as well buy something from a high street retailer, but keep it under budget and decent. He may be able to get a cheap copy of win7 through uni so may have to factor that in. His alternative is a laptop.

Any ideas?

The motherboard does symmetrical crossfire, so you could put two 5770 in it? also there is a onboard gpu to use too until then.

Ah, now that could work, and if he gets a cheaper copy of win7 through uni it could just work. Cheers bro.
