A friend has asked me to copy some of his old stockcar videos to DVD as the tapes are getting a "bit" old (1991 stock finals, that sort of era), i've tried using the capture prog in Nero, the capture prog in Main Concept, even the capture prog that came with the TV card i'm using (AverMedia 771).

It doesn't matter what resolution, what bitrate, etc i use, it always results in massive interlacing. Looks fine when the picture is fixed on a car, but the moment they follow the cars around the track, the picture is unwatchable.

Any ideas/suggestions? Bloke wants them for a party on tuesday

cheers

A quick google:
If you want your capture to look just like the VHS source (unfortunately it can't look any better), capture at 640x480 at 29.967fps, and then DEINTERLACE it. You can do that with softwares like Adobe Premiere or VirtualDub (this one is highly recommended - get it at the software session of www.divx-digest.com).
