Trying to connect to Xbox Live using a laptop: Help needed Please!

As title really.

I know it's possible to connect to xbox live using a laptop. I just need to know how I should go about doing it. I've got a crossover cable etc and everything else. I just don't know what settings it is that I need to change within windows to allow xbox live to connect. I'm sure some members of the forum could shed some light on my problem and I would be very grateful!

Also would be interested in the details for this.

My desktop PC and router are upstairs so this would be an ideal way to connect to live with my wireless linked laptop. Save trailing cables everywhere until I finally get around to buying the MS wireless adapter. :cool:

I'm wondering if you just connect the cable ( Cat5 ok? ) up to both the laptop and 360 if it would just work as long as the laptop was up and running and online?.

Or is that too simple?. :confused:

I don't think it's as simple as that. I think there are certain options in the network menu that need to have ip addresses entered in etc. I hope someone comes along and answers our question.

You have to setup Internet Connection Sharing..

All you have to do is go into My Network Places>View network connectoins, Right click the connection you are sharing (ie your adsl modem) and go into properties..

Now there should be a tab in the window that opens called somthing like advanced (sorry im doing this from memory) and one of the tick boxes on that tab is "share this connection", applay the settings and windows will do the rest

At the above stage if you have more than one network card on your laptop you may be asked to choose which to share with, pick whichever network card your xbox will be plugged into.

Now just connect your xbox to your laptop with your crossover, connect your laptop to the internet, turn on your xbox and go through the process of connectiing to live
