Trying to connect to Xbox Live using a laptop: Help needed Please!

As title really.

I know it's possible to connect to xbox live using a laptop. I just need to know how I should go about doing it. I've got a crossover cable etc and everything else. I just don't know what settings it is that I need to change within windows to allow xbox live to connect. I'm sure some members of the forum could shed some light on my problem and I would be very grateful!

I'm wondering if you just connect the cable ( Cat5 ok? ) up to both the laptop and 360 if it would just work as long as the laptop was up and running and online?.

Or is that too simple?.

Will try it out and see.

I don't think it's as simple as that. I think there are certain options in the network menu that need to have ip addresses entered in etc. I hope someone comes along and answers our question.
