Thought it's time to put the combined wisdom and knowledge base of the OCUK forum gang to work on this one.
Half watched the otherwise rather poor "Passengers" on Blu-Ray yesterday afternoon, jogged me into once again trying to discover the title of the movie where an American bomber has crashed in the desert but the crew don't realise they are dead. I watched this years ago on TV and it was a touching story. There are several almost legendary discussions about this on various forums, the key facts being it was quite an old film (pre 1970 possibly b/w), the "ghost" crew occupied themselves playing baseball, they start to disappear one at a time as their remains are found by a modern day search party, with the exception of one last remaining member whose body fell away from the crash site.
Now several of the movie forum verdicts point to a 1970 TV movie called "Sole Survivor" which starred William Shatner as an investigator looking into a crash. However it has been asserted (and I tend to agree) that Sole Survivor is not the movie in question. Sole Survivor did have one crew member (Richard Basehart?) survive having baled earlier and the movie was more about the investigation. The one I remember focused almost entirely on the "ghosts" in the desert.
Also not to be confused with the James Herbert "Survivor" novel/movie or the Steven Spielberg Amazing Story about the B17 with faulty landing gear and the guy trapped in the nose gun canopy.
