I am here to ask the overclocking god as I did not get too many responses in the general overclocking thread :p

PC spec is in my sig, I currently have it stable at 4.3Ghz with a vcore of 1.225v, equally I can have it at 4.2Ghz with a 1.2vcore. For this I changed the multiplier to 43 and manually set the vcore.

I have tried a multiplier of 45 and vcore on Auto but instant crashes.

PC is a new build I recently put together so the thermal paste is still setting in, but idle temps fluctuate between 33c-37c, gaming temps in Crysis 3, Grid 2, Skyrim all show a maximum of about 60c-65c (CoreTemp).

I want to hit 4.5Ghz if possible, and I feel with this setup it should not be a unrealistic target, but no one has yet to give me detailed information on what settings to change.

I am out of my depth with this BIOS and out of touch with overclocking in general so I would really appreciate any advice/settings I could adjust to make 4.5Ghz (or greater) possible. I understand not all chips are a like but with the right direction and settings I am sure I can find out if I have a good chip or not.

If a screenshot of the BIOS settings would help then I can try and get it for you.

PS, I dont plan on changing this processor for maybe at least another 3 years if that makes any difference or not.

Cheers 8 Pack :)

Set vcore to 1.280volts and see what multi you can get to windows on if you want to see how far you will get. If I were you I would get each multi stable and do a graph of frequency vs volt as this will tell you were the end of the line will be. Your sig states you are on water so you should be fine temp wise.

Ok will try this cheers :)

Seems 4.3Ghz is the wall for this chip :(

I can post exact settings, but off the top of my head:

CPU Ratio = 43
Min Ratio = 43
Max Ratio = 43
LLC - Level 7
Phase - Extreme
VCore = 1.25v

I may have changed a few others but cannot remember exactly.

In any case setting the multiplier higher to say 44 or 45 just crashes usually before Windows 8 has fully loaded. Even tried a multiplier of 44 with 1.3v and still the same so I am thinking 4.3Ghz is the limit maybe?

I know the temps are not a factor because I was hitting 65c-75c under stress testing, but I cleaned off the thermal paste and reapplied now I idle at 30c and under stress test hit around 55c-60c.

Must be a dud for overclocking on as even 4.3Ghz was not stable as I thought. Funny how you can throw stress tests at it and it passes but then you go to play watch dogs or convert some videos and crashes!

So looks like I am going to settle at 4.2Ghz which is not bad I guess, annoyingly I get really good temps so there is overhead for a higher overclocking but I think the chip wont allow me, equally I think running x4 dimms at 2400mhz could be causing a lot of instability/tweaking more settings may allow more.

Thanks all, I actually managed to hit 4.3Ghz stable vcore at 1.25v, and almost 4.4Ghz (1.3v) but crashed after 5 minutes - but I changed a lot of settings in the BIOS to achieve a stable 43 multiplier.

Now I have seen your posts I will load optimized defaults and try again cheers :)
