Hi!

Right now I am running a Q6600, Asus P5K-E, non overclocked in an Antec P180 with its 3 case fans at "low" setting. My CPU cooler is an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 which right now runs at 413rpm with temp 32C (according to Asus AI suite). According to Core Temp the temperature is around 39-40C. Other fans I have inside the system are the GTX260 (reference design) and the Corsair HX 620W.

What I want to succeed is to lower the noise while idle. I have my PC downloading in my office and I can barely hear it 6m away in my bedroom. While surfing or writing I can hear all the fans running...
In order to lower the noise I have decided to replace the 3 antec fans with at least 2 Coolink fans swif ultra silent (120mm, 800rpm, 11dB). However I am also trying to find a good heatsink (not to heavy as I have a vertical mounted mobo) with a variable fan.

After reading some discussions here, I see most of the people here suggesting Noctua, or Thermalright TRUE. These are big heatsinks but what about their fans. Are they variable? I have also seen Scythe Orochi which is pretty silent but huge and heavy. What would you suggest to me? I am interested more in noise than overclocking.

Thank you in advance!

The Noctua cooler comes with a 7v and a 5v adaptor. Called L.N.A (Low Noise adapter) and U.L.N.A (Ultra Low Noise Adapter), respectively.

You just attach the adapter at the end of the fan cable, and it reduces fan speed, dependent on what adaptr you use.

However, I think that you can change your fan speeds of your current fan in the BIOS. If you go to your BIOS and hardware management or Power section, there should be something about fan speeds there. But if you do lower fan speeds, keep an eagle eye on your temps.

However, re-reading your post you have an AC7 with a fan speed of 413 rpm? Are you sure this is correct? And are you sure that the cpu fan is making the noise and not your graphic card or power supply? I shouldn't think a fan running at 413 rpm wouldn't make much noise?

If you are sure that the cpu fan is the noisy one, then you can always buy some Noctua fans.
