Hi Guys! I am new to this forum but I heard you guys are really good at helping people with computer related stuff.

I am an amateur music producer <http://gdev.madtracker.net> and i'm trying to sort out a computer to take my music to the next level (but i also want to play First Person Shoot'em up games)

I need a dual monitor setup that can play games too

i found some stuff:

1 . BU-004-OK Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 2.40GHz Retail / Intel 965P LT Motherboard / 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle (BU-004-OK) 1
MY-092-CS Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-092-CS) 1
MB-011-IN Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - Retail (MB-011-IN) 1
CP-128-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN) 1
£411.97 £411.97

2. HD-022-HI Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 NCQ 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (0A32728) (HD-022-HI) 1
£36.99 £36.99

3. CD-020-AS Asus DRW-1608P3S 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - Retail (CD-020-AS) 1
£24.50 £24.50

4. GX-003-EA EVGA GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2 HDTV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-003-EA)

Basically i need help with:

*the hard disk: i know 7200rpm is good but which one would you recommend?

*the graphics card: i have no clue what is good i just chose one with 512mb ram

*the case: as you may have noticed i have no case - for two important reasons
1. its hard to find with included PSU
2. I don't know how much power i need

* also i already have a soundcard EMU 0404 but it is PCI not PCI express- will it fit in my motherboard?

sorry to be so long winded hope you can offer me some advice / assistance,

Many thanks in advance, Gdev :)

Welcome to the forums :)

For the HDD I would go for the Segate Barracuda 7200.10, they are the quietest and fastest hard drives as far as I know and a lot of people have recommended them.....

As for the GFX card, you would probably be best off with a x1900 or a 7900 GS, although im not too sure as they are both really good cards for the price. Also there is the x1800xt which is cheap but also very good, it all depends on what resolution you are going to be playing.....

the case, well I have an antec sonata II piano, and its mint it comes with a 450w smart power PSU and its silent as they come (i cant even tell if I have my computer on :D)

use that to find out how much power you will be drawing and use that as a guideline.

Hope this helps

best montherboard is meant to be Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 OR Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4

for hard drive i would go for western digital or seagate sata, probably the best makes available

for optical drive everyone is saying nec, pioneer and lg are the best

for case get lian li pc-7+ it's got no psu as you are going for core 2 duo you will need something powerful but from a reliable brand eg. seasonic, enermax, corsair, antec etc. i would say about 500watts shouls be enough

but don't take my advice wait and see if anyone backs it up or suggests anything different

anyone else got any advice on the subject?
