trying to oc e6600 on a p5vd2-mx se

Your motherboard is micro-atx which is a smaller and cut-down version of it's ATX big brother. These, and in particular asus' micro-atx boards, generally don't have the overclocking features enabled in the bios.
You could try clockgen and o/c in windows but i doubt your P4M890 chipset is compatible.
If you want to get a micro-atx overclockable mobo, asrock do a few good ones for socket 775, which can achieve 300fsb+

Well, i downloaded clockgen and cpu-z.
Clockgen didnt have a pll the same as mine. Cpu-z says the sensor is 'Winbond W83627EHF' which doesnt appear on the list in clock gen. So i just clicked the nearest one to it, and a slider did come up allowing me to adjust fsb!
However, when i click apply, everything just resets to normal and at no point does my actual clock speed change.

Is this a lost cause or what?

Clockgen isn't working as it can't write the data because the chipset isn't supported.

Buy a new mobo if you want to overclock.
