Trying to put my laptop back to factory image...

I have a Dell L702X that I am trying to put back to the factory settings for various reasons, however I am running into problems.

On startup, I press F8 and select 'Repair your PC'. Now this would usually bring up options to restore my PC, etc. but now it just hangs on a black screen with 'Windows is loading files...' above a solid white bar.

What is going wrong? :o

Thanks.

Sounds like you're loading the Windows repair not the Dell one to completely re-configure the system.

To get to the Dell repair is looks like you need to press CTRL+F11 on startup (at the initial BIOS screen I imagine).

This will likely wipe all your data, but I imagine you realise that.

Thanks, I'll remember that for the next time. :)

Before I read your reply, I used my dad's Windows 7 disc and did a clean install. Activated it using the serial on the bottom of my laptop. All is good now!

If your dad formated the hard drive using the win 7 disc, then your factory recovery image will have been removed, or damaged. It was F8 as to the journal HERE, but if it did not work, then it was damaged anyway.

Can you get into Windows ok? If so go into Drive Management by clicking Start > Run (Or Windows key and the "R" key" and type diskmgmt.msc and hit enter or click OK.

Do you see a Recovery partition at the start of the drive?
