Trying to record

Hey,
Im trying to record onto my microphone i have a soundblaster 5.1 card. I have plugged the mic in the correct port in the back the PINK one. When i try and record it records from the speakers the strange thing is the microphone and the speakers go on when i switch them on in the properties for the sound. I dont understand what im doing wrong if someone could clarify how i should be set up that would be great!

What program are you using to record with ?
Maybe in the program it's being told to record from the soundcards output, and not the mic.
