Hey,

Is it possible to set up a link between 2 computers on the same home network so that they can view each other's hard drive?

I'm trying to do this between my old desktop on vista and my new laptop on windows7 and not finding it easy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

yes it is very easy

right click on the folder you want to share and goto properties then the sharing tab

its fairly self explanitory from there

then to use the share from the other pc type in

\\compname

into the address bar and it will bring a list of shares or goto my network places and browse from there

Thanks Yakyb!

That's worked perfectly! Although the transfer rate is only 500kbs...

Is there any way I can speed that up? Even downloading off the internet is faster than that!

Hmmm, I've got service pack 2 installed on the vista machine. the laptop is running 7. still only getting transfer rates of about 600kbs!

I've also tried the usual (disable AV etc) but can't seem to increase the speed. It reckons it will take 6hours to transfer 11GB of music!

I don't understand why it's so slow when my internet runs at about 19mbs!

Are you using wireless? I get a maximum of about 2MB/s through wireless and about 50-60MB/ through gigabit cable :)

Not through wireless. Wireless is rubbish for large file transfers. Use a cable if you want the best results, you can get ~8-9MB/s through cable on a 100meg network.
