Shame its X79, the Gene is the only X79 mATX motherboard, so you have very little choice and the price is truly extortionate.

The 4770k is actually a much better performing chip, so the replacmenet (refresh, possibly the 4790k), which is out in a fortnight, will be a big step up.

Look at this spec, obviously swap the 4770k and Motherboard for Haswell refresh equivalents when released.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £249.95
1 x MSI Z87M Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £101.99
1 x Aero Cool Dead Silence Gaming White/Black Mini Tower Windowed £72.95
Total : £438.98 (includes shipping : £11.75).

With the sale of you're motherboard, case and CPU you're looking at £100-£150 spent maximum.. :)

are you 100% sure you want to do this. I did back in dec 2013 and now I've got everything back in a H440 as I just could deal with the heat /noise produced when running games. Also felt really limited in term of w/c options and expandability.

Difference between me and you was I was running a 3570 so didn't cost me much but you're looking at a x79 matx board and thats some cost…

if you're really up for it go for it but just thought I'd throw the old opinion in there

Thanks for the reply! I didn't even notice the price difference between the x79 and and z87 boards! I can wait two weeks and and upgrade then. Any reason why I shouldnt go for the Lian Li case? I have only heard good things about them.

That was essentially my opinion all long. In reality, I never use my PC anymore, so if the extra cost of making it smaller will get me playing again...thats worth it. Better than having a very expensive paper weight
