Have just bought a 16gig iphone and I want to unlock it. I was following the sticky guide which says:

If you have just bought your iPhone, connect it to your PC or Mac and open iTunes and click 'Update' to download and install the latest firmware (Currently 1.1.4).

I have connected my iphone to my macbook and have opened itunes but I get a 'Let's get started' screen', where it is telling me to set up with O2.

How do I update it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael

If you read the rest of the sticky, or google it, there are apps that are listed that does the unlock for you. Which is the next part of the process. :).

Yep, I have the Ziphone app, but what I wanted to do was to update to 1.1.4 before I unlocked it.

I have just applied the Ziphone app and it is unlocked with 1.1.3. My orange sim does not seem to work in it though :S

I think my orange sim is a 3g one as I can make video calls with it, will the iphone take this?

Michael

Right.

Switch the iPhone off.
Hold down the home button and plug it in, keep holding down the home button until you see a cable and iTunes logo.
iTunes will start up and say it sees an iPhone in recovery mode. Press restore and let it do its thing.
Once this is done, quit iTunes and open ZiPhone 2.5
Run 'Do it all' (the top option) and let it do its thing, iTunes will pop up and give a few notifications. Dont touch them, just let ZiPhone do its thing.
Once its done, chuck in the SIM you want and off you go!

Have updated the sticky, if you have just bought an iPhone you will need to hold down the home key on the iPhone then connect it. This will put it in restore mode enabling you to update.

Thanks for those instructions, have just followed them exactly. Phone was updated and then Ziphone sucessfully unlocked it.
However my orange sim still doesn't work in it :S

Edit*: The actual chip on the orange sim card looks different to the one that's on the o2 one. On the orange it's more of a rectangle shape whereas on the o2 it's more ellipsoidal. I don't know if this makes a difference at all?

Tried switching the phone on and off? My mates didn't want to recognise his SIM but I switched it off and on again and it worked like a charm.

EDIT: just realised that you did that in relation to my advice in another thread.

EDIT AGAIN: have you tried a reset? Holding the On/Off button and Home button at the same time for 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears?

iphone is now unlocked via iNdepedance. Many thanks to isotope for helping me sort it out.
I'm sure my orange is 3G as I have made video calls with this line before. But it works with 2.5G phones too, Ziphone just didn't want to work.
