Hello,

I'm trying to play a movie with this format and an SRT subtitle file :
Video:
Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile 1280x544 8,46 Mbps
Audio:
Windows Media Audio 10 Professional
440 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 16 bit 1-pass CBR

Now VLC as usual picks up the sub, but doesn't play the sound codec ( it starts disabled, and when you enable the audio track, it there's still nothing from my speakers...)

And windows media player 11 doesn't play the subs.

Does anyone know how to get subs working in WMP 11 in vista x64 or know if there's plugin for VLC to make it play the audio ? I am using the latest 0.8.6f version of VLC...

Short answer: Media Player Classic Home Cinema with ffdshow tryouts.

Long answer: Hmm, it's too late for a long answer! ffdshow should get WMP to display subs though!

Installed ffdshow, it doesn't show up on the video... I've ticked all codecs in the config options to enabled, yet it still doesn't do anything on playing that vid... Eg. no ffdshow icon in the bottom right corner...

I noticed it's from 2004, are you sure it supports vista x64 then ?

Never mind, I watched the film without subs, why VLC media player doesn't play such an easy sound format ( WMA) is beyond me though...

VLC is not that great. Personally I find it has issues with a lot of files and the output quality is not as high as with other solutions. ffdshow does not work with VLC, which is why you couldn't get it to work. It would have worked with WMP though and to enable subs you just tick the subs bit in ffdshows config.

By far the best solution is Media Player Classic Home Cinema, ffdshow tryouts and Haali media splitter. Use all 32-bit by the way, it's much more reliable.

Note that ffdshow itself stopped being developed in 2004. You need to use updated versions such as ffdshow tryouts.

Is it only with one type of media or all of them that VLC has no sound? For some reason, my VLC has defaulted to 5.1, so I have to switch it manually to Stereo so that it works otherwise it's silent... not worked out how to change the default yet.

No, FFDshow did nothing when I tryed playign it in wmp 11...
I am using 32 bits versions of the media player...
As for ffdshow and haali, i had that in xp, and it messed up all the colors in WMP, it played black white ish but with ''color'' shadows ., I'd rather not fubar my vista wmp...

Just this one, any other clip I've watched from other formats I've never even heard of work fine...

Anyways I just watched the film in wmp 11 stock ( without any codec packs) and just hope that format just doesn't show up again, having to concentrate to what they say ( I really have to focus to make something of ''fast'' speaking english...) is just a bit more tireing that subs ( wouldn't even mind if they're english or dutch, as long as I don't have to try listening). Subs is read subs and know what they say when they say it at that moment, no need to concentrate on what the hell they were saying :).

to the OP have you got rivatuner/D3DOverrider installed on your taskbar?, as this messed up VLC for me and took me hours to work out what was the problem

All I've ever needed to do to get subs working is make sure they're in the same folder as file and that I have subtitles ticked in ffdshow. I can't see subs, worse case scenario is I have to manually pick the file :D

SHould play fine in wmp11 and media player classic home cinema
