And it's been a nightmare, i've had several issues that i've solved but i'm now stumped.

Basically i get to the point where you choose which OS to use (vista or linux), if i select vista, all is fine, if i select ubuntu it comes up with the error 'BOOTMGR IS MISSING' and asks me to reboot.

Current setup is vista on my sata1 harddrive and ubuntu on a seperate harddrive hooked up to sata2

any ideas?

I booted from the linux CD and formatted and installed to the partition i had set aside for it.

I had to use EasyBCD to even get ubuntu to appear as an option in the bootup process but the error occurs. According to EasyBCD everything is fine tho.

Scratch that, ubuntu worked the first time i booted into it, however now if i do i just end up staring at an empty backdrop with no UI. There's no harddrive activity so it doesn't seem to be loading anything it just... sits there.

Linux so far doesn't seem to me for me.

By boot media I mean cd/usb you installed it from, when I leave the usb key plugged in my system sits in bios :)

When it 'sits' does it give you a prompt?

Also when it is booting it will say loading Grub press esc for options, there is a basic recovery thing in there :)

Ahh, nah i installed from a disk and the installer very helpfully ejects the disk drive and reminds you to remove the disk.

When it 'sits' it does literally that, just sits there with the backdrop visible but nothing else there, doesn't respond to any input, i left it for a good 15 mins before i gave up. I tried repairing in options to no avail, i did some reading around and apparently the issue can sometimes be caused by a failed update on a new install of ubuntu. I've reinstalled it and am writing this post from it, very snappy OS ain't it :)

Updating again now, hopefully it won't go wrong again D:

[EDIT] Well, i'm still here which is a good sign

one query, when i boot up and double click on a drive it comes up with an error "Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume" before i am able to explore it. Bit of a pain, any way to stop this from happening?
