Right, I ahve completed my second attempt at a website and I ahve used filezilla to upload it to TSOHost. I have put the folder in the public folder but when I navigate to my website it displays a page with 'index of' then a link to my website. Clicking on that then takes me through to the page.

What am I doing wrong?

This happened on my first go when I was just uploading a single html document. It does contain a html document titled 'index'.

Any help much appreciated!

seems to me as if you don't have a start page setup.
it's been a long time since i played with webhosting so sorry if i'm wrong.

what kind of site did you make? you should have a index.html as your start page or for most cms it will be index.php

if that's the case you need to modify ".htmaccess" and make sure it points to your index file

or just as a test try renaming "index.html" to "-index.html" and reload. It should automatically pick your index page.

I think I have fixed it. I was uploading the website as a folder into the public folder. I have since uplodaded just the contents into the public folder and I think it's sorted......

Cheers for the help makno

Yeah that's right, the index file has to be in the public html folder. You can have it in other folders but you have to set up subdomains via the cpanel and forward to that.

For example I don't have anything in my site's public html root folder, I've got folders within that set up with subdomains.

Thanks guys. Yeah been using notepad++ and find it quite handy for learning/trying new things. EW is also good as it has helped me develop a lot of understanding. Using a combo of the two for different things.
